Dear friends:

“Sailing has never looked better than on the pages of SAILING magazine.”

A subscriber called me to make that comment. He explained that what he meant was not just that SAILING’s world-famous photography captures the incredible beauty of our sport, but that the magazine’s spirit is all about presenting sailing as something wonderful to be part of, a rewarding pastime in reach of everyone, from families with small children to Baby Boomers and beyond.

Needless to say, I was delighted to take the call, because that reader got it. He put into words what SAILING, America’s oldest sailing magazine, has been doing for nearly 45 years. Our take on sailing is inclusive, not exclusive; we don’t cater to a niche, but to a world of sailing enthusiasts. We put sailing in the best light with an editorial formula that pulls together prize-winning writers and columnists, the world’s top marine photographers and the most respected and authoritative design reviewer and boat testers in the business.

If that seems like an extravagant package during a time of economic challenge, it is, but we’ve stuck with it (and with the largest page size of any sailing magazine) because our discriminating readers demand it—and love it. And they’ve rewarded us with an all-paid circulation base that remains rock solid.

SAILING’s editorial strength does more than please readers—it delivers significant support to the sailing industry, support that includes leadership on issues that are key to the health of the sailing business universe. SAILING, for example, has been a trailblazer in promoting the wholesome environmental impact of sailing.

Combined with our commitment to editorial excellence, SAILING offers a newly enhanced marketing package that includes print magazine circulation to a readership that scores at the top of demographic measures sailing marketers covet, one of the most popular Web magazines in the field, e-newsletters and podcasts.

Your message to the sailing market will never look better than in SAILING.

Best wishes,

Bill Schanen
