NAUTOR’S SWAN 2010 RACING CIRCUITS & EVENT PROGRAMME
Nautor’s Swan, builder of luxury sailing yachts, is not only known for the design and manufacture of its products but for its established community of Swan owners and the organisation or involvement in an extensive range of the most prestigious sailing events across the globe.
Following another memorable season for international Swan racing, Nautor’s Swan is pleased to announce another active programme of racing, cruising and boat shows for 2010.
The main feature of the calendar will be the Rolex Swan Cup which will reach its 16th edition from 13 to 19 September 2010. Once again Porto Cervo, Sardinia will become the centre of the Nautor's Swan community with upwards of 100 Swan yachts competing in the waters off of the Sardinian coast. The biennial event attracts both modern and classic Swan yachts and will feature the Club Swan 42 and Swan 45 one-design classes as well as the Swan Maxi Class and Classic Swan yachts. A draw for top sailors and amateurs alike, the Rolex Swan Cup provides a spirited week of racing and gala social events for which Rolex and the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda are renowned.
The remainder of Nautor’s Swan activities surrounding the Rolex Swan Cup can be grouped into the following elements: Swan Class Circuits, Swan Challenge Series, Boat Shows and the ClubSwan Rendezvous.
Swan Class Circuits
The Swan Maxi Class, open to all Swan yachts over 60 feet, is due to expand over the course of the 2010 season following the introduction of the new Swan 60s and development of the Swan 90s on the racing scene. The 2010 Swan Maxi Circuit will begin in Palma de Mallorca at PalmaVela, from 14 to 18 April, followed by the inshore element of the Giraglia Rolex Cup, 12 to 19 June, where the programme will also bring together yachts from the Swan One Design and Classic Swan fleets in St. Tropez. The pinnacle and finale to the Circuit will then be the Rolex Swan Cup in Porto Cervo where a collection of 36 Swan Maxis gathered for the 2008 edition of the event.
Among the One Design Classes, the Swan 45 Circuit for the year will also be based in the Med beginning with the Memorial Giorgio Falck Regatta in Scarlino, Italy, from 16 to 18 April. Rolex Capri Sailing Week, which will form the Italian National Championships, will be next in the programme at the end of May, followed by Copa Del Rey, at Real Club Nautico di Palma in the first week of August. The Swan 45 Class’ International Circuit will then culminate at the Rolex Swan 45 World Championships, incorporated into the Rolex Swan Cup, in September. For their Offshore Challenge, the participating Swan 45 fleet will join some of the Swan Maxis and Classics to complete the 243 mile sail from St. Tropez, around the famous Giraglia rock, to Genoa for the Giraglia Rolex Cup.
For the more recently developed model of the Swan One Design profile, the Club Swan 42 fleet, there will once again be dedicated Circuits in the US and Europe. The US based fleet will have a series of events in place, including Acura Key West Race Week and the Miami Grand Prix at the beginning of the season. The Circuit will peak with the Club Swan 42 US Nationals at the yacht’s founding club, the New York Yacht Club.
In order to extend the racing opportunities for the international Club Swan 42 yachts from Northern Europe and the US that will join the local fleet in the Med for the Rolex Swan Cup, the 2010 European Circuit for the Class will be based solely around events in the Mediterranean Sea.
The competition will begin on the occasion of the Giraglia Rolex Cup inshore races. The fleet will then continue to the renowned Copa del Rey in Palma de Mallorca, before heading to the Circuit finale at the Rolex Swan Cup. The Memorial Giorgio Falck Regatta, Scarlino, and the Trofeo Pirelli in Santa Margherita, Italy, will also be open to the Club Swan 42 Class and will form ideal practise events for the Circuit, with Les Voiles de Saint Tropez forming another suitable regatta for Class members in September. An award will also be presented for the top placed Club Swan 42 in the Giraglia Offshore Race.
Swan Challenge Series
Open to all Swan yachts, the Swan Challenge series annually features some of the most prestigious competitive sailing events across the globe for which the best performing Swan yachts are awarded the respective Challenge trophies. All six of the Asprey silver Swan Challenge Cups will be open to competition in 2010 through a variety of renowned events.
The 2010 series will kick off with the Heineken St. Maarten Regatta which will form the first element of the Swan Caribbean Challenge. The Caribbean Challenge will, this year, be awarded for performance over a combination of the Heineken St. Maarten Regatta, the International Rolex Regatta, the BVI Regatta and Antigua Sailing Week. The Swan Mediterranean Challenge trophy will be awarded to the best performing Swan yacht at Les Voiles de St. Tropez and the Eastern American Challenge will return for the Newport Bermuda Race, on 18 June. Following another successful year in Germany, the Swan Baltic Sea Challenge will be held in September at the Flensburger Fördewoche in Flensburg, Germany, and the RORC Cowes – Dinard – St. Malo Race and Cowes Week in July, will form the basis for the Swan Northern European Challenge. The final Asprey trophy for the 2010 Swan Challenge series will be awarded for the ARC Race which will start in Gran Canaria, on 21 November.
Boat Shows
With the constant evolution of the SwanLine, which sees Nautor’s Swan’s 40 years experience in yacht design and manufacture developing ideas and introducing new models, the brand will be represented at a range of traditional and more recently established boat shows across the globe. The first boat show will start the New Year’s agenda in Dusseldorf during January. Over in the Middle East, the expanding Dubai Boat Show will feature in March along with a series of Northern European shows in Copenhagen, HISWA in Amsterdam and Oslo. Southampton and Monaco complete the peak of the schedule in September with the Italian shows, Genoa International Boat Show, taking place in October along with the Hamburg International Boat Show. The boat show focus for the US Nautor offices will be at Fort Lauderdale, Florida, towards the end of the year.
ClubSwan Caribbean Rendezvous’
From 15 to 20 March, a fleet of Swan yachts covering a wide range of models will gather for the 7th Annual ClubSwan Caribbean Rendezvous. Organised in association with the prominent Bitter End Yacht Club, the week of cruising, light-hearted racing and exclusive social functions will take the fleet to several areas of the spectacular British Virgin Islands.
