New boat: Hanse 630e

If you’re going cruising in the far reaches of the world, wouldn’t it be nice to really do it in style? The Hanse 630e, the company’s new flagship, is one way to accomplish that. And while you’re busy enjoying the comfort, you’ll be making plenty of other cruisers in the anchorage green with envy.

The nearly 63-foot Hanse looks fast. The bow is almost plumb and windows in the hull combined with a low cabinhouse create a profile that looks low without sacrificing room down below. On deck, twin wheels open up the large cockpit, which can be protected with a dodger that folds down flush to the cabintop. The hydraulic transom opens via remote control to provide dinghy storage and an electric windlass makes anchoring a push-button affair.

The sailplan is optimized for convenience, including an electric jib furler mounted belowdecks for maximum luff length, a self-tacking jib, standard lazy jacks to manage the large mainsail, a split backstay and even a cockpit light integrated into the boom. Two keel options are available: a standard 9-foot, 7-inch version and a lifting keel that ranges from 7 feet, 2 inches of draft to 11 feet, 7 inches.

Down below the boat has a modern and clean, although not sparse, look to it. A variety of interior layouts are provided to fit each owner’s needs, but an expansive galley featuring solid surface countertops, a three-burner stove and oven, microwave, top and front-loading refrigerator and a front-loading freezer will keep even gourmet chefs happy. A bar-height counter is also standard. A large navigation station with room to spread out charts is standard and plenty of lockers throughout the boat address the storage limitations that vex sailors.
