Can you tell me what modern boats do have pilot berths? Or what is the most current 40' with pilot berths. My husband and I are shopping for a boat for a transatlantic trip and can't find ones with pilot berths and centerfold table and rear cockpit. Any ideas? Thanks very much - cindy osmun

Dear Chris , many moons have passed since we have been together but I surface today as a result of reading your article on pilot berths...You are spot on!!!!!I just returned from the Carib 1500 which runs from Hampton Va down to Tortola. This year was a record setter in that we had 20to 35knots of wind from the NE which meant a reach for1500 miles.....the sail of sails!!!I sailed on an Amel 53 (only 4 onboard) and drew the forward windward bunk.Although it takes 30 plus winds to make that boat heal it was difficult to adjust to the weather bunk and get some quality sleep.....so I did just what you suggest------told the New Zealand owner I wanted the pilot berth and I slept like a baby for the whole trip.Pilot berths are the greatest invention ever and it is sad that the designers don't understand exactly what you are saying-----what looks nice at the dock is not the true story!!!!Carolie and I live in Gloucester Va and I try to stay in touch with most of the Yachting oldies---even Alex!!!!!We try and stay with Vera and Tim when we are on the west coast of Fla ....If you are ever in the greater Norfolk area get in touch ....we would love to see you....Pokey - Pokey Frazer
